Several Affected as Rough Air Impacts Delta Aircraft into Sydney
Several people sustained injuries following a Delta jet from LA to Sydney, Australia was hit by turbulence on Friday morning.
The flight, numbered 41 "experienced a brief period of turbulence" as it made its approach and landed at Sydney Airport, an airline spokesperson stated. Several cabin crew members required medical attention.
Emergency medical services reported they assessed five patients, and took a trio to a medical facility with minor injuries that comprised back pain and migraines. Those affected spanned from their 30s up to the 70s.
It is the most recent case of aircraft being hit by severe turbulence, with researchers saying that shifting climate patterns is a significant contributor.
The aircraft was carrying 245 people and fifteen staff members on the aircraft, the Delta spokesperson noted, adding that the plane arrived "without further incident" at the airport at shortly before 7 a.m. on the day in question.
Paramedics said they were alerted just three minutes before the plane arrived, and emergency vehicles were waiting on the tarmac.
