Edwards and Gary O'Neil are two of the early names in the frame to replace the former manager as head coach of Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Pereira was sacked on the weekend after the squad's 10-match without a victory start to the Premier League campaign.
Furthermore both candidates - both of who have historic links to the club - are part of the names to be evaluated by the Wolves leadership.
The manager is currently at Middlesbrough, which would pose a potential hurdle to his hiring at Molineux.
Nevertheless the former Luton Town head coach - who made over a century of games for Wolves during his time as a player - is considered a strong candidate for the vacancy.
The 42-year-old is said to have support from the Wolves directors as they start the process of hiring a new head coach.
Gary O'Neil is also emerging as a surprise candidate, even though he would be a shock choice considering he was released by Wolves in the previous winter.
The former West Ham United player is out of work meaning Wolves would not be required to pay any compensation.
